The Santa Monica College
center for teaching Excellence
Back in 2013, Paige started working at Santa Monica College. She was brought in to support a newly established professional development department, which was to be called The Center for Teaching Excellence. The first order of business was to create participant binders for the very first “Faculty Summer Institute”, which would soon become one of the most recognizable annual professional development events held by the college. However, at the time, it was an unknown; a blank slate.
Given free reign to come up with “something” to make the department and the event “look professional” if she “felt like it” (her boss’s words), the obvious first step was to give a recognizable logo to the department, and some branding to the event to unify the materials and make it look official.
Little did Paige realize that the logo and event styles she created would go on to be used, and grow with, the department for nearly a decade.
